Apple Health export field checklist: choose the data before the dashboard.

A checklist for choosing Apple Health fields before exporting to CSV, JSON, API, Grafana, Home Assistant, or a local database.

The core export set

Steps and walking/running distance for activity volume.

Heart rate, resting heart rate, and HRV for recovery context.

Sleep duration and sleep stages where available.

Workouts with type, duration, energy, distance, and timestamps.

Weight and body measurements if you already track them.

Medication logs only when the privacy and sharing context is appropriate.

Add destination-specific fields

Grafana wants stable timestamps and units. Home Assistant wants slowly changing sensors and generous staleness windows. A doctor-visit PDF wants readable summaries, not raw firehose exports. A personal database wants every identifier needed to dedupe future exports.

What to write down before export

Destination, date range, timezone, units, categories, whether this is a one-time export or recurring sync, and whether the output contains sensitive data you should avoid emailing or uploading.

Boundary

Health data is sensitive. Export only what you need, store it somewhere you control, and treat the result as informational unless a qualified clinician tells you otherwise.
